Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Nikolaus Flickinger received his Master’s of Oboe Performance degree from Arizona State University. Nikolaus is currently the Principal oboe player of the Musica Nova Orchestra, and Phoenix Opera and second oboe with the West Valley Symphony. He is also a member of Mill Avenue Chamber Players and Paradise Winds. Before Arizona, Nikolaus attended the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, where he received his Bachelor’s degree.
Nikolaus’s previous performance experiences have been with Phoenix Symphony, Tucson Symphony, Orchesta Sinfonica de la UANL in Monterrey, Mexico, Phoenix Metropolitan Opera, Flagstaff Symphony, American Institute of Musical Studies Orchestra in Graz, Austria, the West Valley Symphony, Mesa Symphony, Musica Nova Orchestra, Sarasota Festival Orchestra. Nikolaus Flickinger is currently Adjunct Faculty at Mesa Community College and Glendale Community College. He is also the primary oboe teacher at Arizona School for the Arts, and enjoys his own private studio. Nikolaus recently founded the company OBONIK (formerly flick’s reeds), where is specializes in handmade oboe and English Horn reeds.
